Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Art Society
The Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Art Society is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1933, which draws artists from the cities of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, about 150km north of Sydney.
The society provides artists with opportunities to showcase their work with exhibitions held throughout the year at shopping centres, hospitals and various locations. Consequently four exhibitions are held annually at local shopping centres, offering awards and incentives to the artists. These awards are named in honour of people who contributed to the early success of the society.
In 2008 artist Ernie Kelly wrote ‘The Story of Newcastle Art Society’ – a book on the formation and early years. Also in the same year, the society was featured in the May edition of Australian Artist.
Today, the Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Art Society offers a vibrant and varied display of art for the people of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
