Lola Rose Award
Lola Rose Award Rathmines Theatre 2023
On June 10th to 18th 2023 Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Art Society are holding an art exhibition at the Rathmines Theatre and Boiler Room, Rathmines NSW. The exhibition, which incorporates the Lola Rose Award will be in the Boiler Room and will be open to viewing from 10am until 4pm each day.

CHARLESTOWN EXHIBITION
The Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Art Society will be back in Charlestown Square on 27 January until 9 February with an amazing display of original artwork. We will be on level 1 outside Myers so come along and say hello.
The Joe Punshon Award
Market Town, Newcastle West
Joe Punshon was an early member who contributed greatly to the society, serving as secretary from 1952 until his death in 1988, and offering his home as the venue of meetings for many years. This award has been given annually since 1962 and is the first held each year, usually in March/April. After many years at Wallsend, the exhibition moved in 2014 to Marketown, Newcastle West where it is currently held.
The Lola Rose Award
Stockland Centre, Jesmond
Internationally acclaimed Lola Rose was a popular local artist who remained actively involved in the society for almost 70 years, contributing to our exhibitions with her highly sought-after artwork and radiant smile. She was a major player on the local art scene for many years, and continued to draw and paint all her life. The award in her name was established with her demise in 2013 and is presented annually in June with the exhibition held at Stockland, Jesmond.

Lake Macquarie Fair Mount Hutton
As Lake Macquarie Lady Mayoress in 1996, Ellen Kilpatrick officially opened our first shopping centre exhibition in Lake Macquarie Fair, Mount Hutton. The exhibition proved such a success it became an annual event, and over the next few years other centres became involved. It is generally held early in September.
The Des Vout Memorial Award
Belmont Citi Centre, Belmont
As manager of the Commonwealth Bank in Newcastle for many years, Des Vout and his wife Jenny were both extremely generous in their support of the society, continuing a long association established in 1959, when the bank became another exhibition venue – continuing until 2003. When Des passed away suddenly, Jenny set up the ‘Des Vout Memorial Award’ in his honour. This competition is now held at Belmont Citi Centre, usually in November each year.

Ocean Blue Gallery’s first birthday coincides with Newcastle Art Society’s exhibition there, and with Christmas just around the corner it’s the perfect time to visit this up and coming gallery in Belmont.

Ocean Blue Gallery Belmont
Ocean Blue Gallery is hosting an exhibition of work by Newcastle Art Society members over the months of March and April. The gallery will be open Monday to Saturday with society members in the gallery each saturday. Creative Days will be held on 6 & 13 April with demonstrations, artist talks and extra art on show. These days are something new to the gallery and should be a lot of fun!

An exhibition of artworks by members of the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Art Society will highlight the wonderful diversity of nature in and around the wetlands.

The Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Art Society will be holding an exhibition at the Rathmines Theatre and Boiler Room from 21st to 27th June. The exhibition will incorporate the Lola Rose Award and will be part of the month-long activities in conjunction with the Council to celebrate art in Lake Macquarie. We are excited to not only have an exhibition in the historic Boiler Room but many classes and demonstrations in the Theatre (formerly the hall) at Rathmines. Many of our members will be holding classes covering a variety of art media and styles together with members demonstrating their work in progress. We hope that the public will come along and take part in the activities and try a new skill. The week will be full of fun activities. Schools have also been invited to take part and children’s art work will be displayed in the main hall and judged.

On June 11th to 19th 2022 the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Art Society are holding an art extravaganza at the Rathmines Theatre and Boiler Room, Rathmines NSW. Attached is a full brochure of the events which are being held over a 9 day period from 10am until 4pm each day. As you will see from the brochure, we have an Art Auction and Exhibition, Children’s Art on exhibit, free children’s drawing classes, entertainment provided by the school children, coffee van and a sausage sizzle. Also our artists will be on site throughout the week, talking about their art practises as well as selling some of their products including jewellery, greeting cards etc.

Belmont Golf & Bowls Club Exhibition
NALMAS Art Society will be holding their next exhibiton of local artists at the Belmont Golf & Bowls Club from Friday 15th July until Sunday 24th July.
All artworks will be for sale. There will be an opening function at the club on Friday 15th July from 5pm with nibbles and drinks.

As part of our 90th Year Anniversary, NALMAS Art Society will be holding an exhibition of local artists at the Belmont Golf & Bowls Club from Saturday 11th March beginning with a luncheon at midday and opening of Exhibition by member of parliament Yasmin Catley.
